Direndra Singh - BJP MLA Jewar Constituency, U.P

Dhirendra Singh (born 1 November 1966) is an Indian politician and a member of the Seventeenth Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh. He represents the Jewar (Assembly constituency) of Uttar Pradesh and is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).He defeated Vedram Bhati, a three time MLA of Bahujan Samaj Party with a margin of 22,173 votes.

During the 2022 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections Dhirendra Singh defeated a renowned Indian politician and a Member of parliament for 20 years, Avatar Singh Badhana with a distinct margin of 56,315 votes.

Dhirendra Singh was born in Rabupura town of Gautam Budh Nagar district to Heeri Singh. He attended the Chaudhary Charan Singh University and attained a Master of Arts degree in History. He is an alumnus of St. John’s College, Agra. Dhirendra Singh started his political life as a student leader in St. John’s College, Agra. 

Dhirendra Singh, the elected chairman of his hometown Rabupura in the year 2001, initially affiliated with the Indian National Congress (INC) and served as the state spokesperson for the party. However, it was during the farmers’ movement in Bhatta Parsaul that his political trajectory took a significant turn. Singh  actively participated in the movement, gaining prominence for his role.

Notably, he rode alongside the then Congress vice-resident Rahul Gandhi on his bike to the village of Bhatta Parsaul during the intense land acquisition protests. His leadership during this time marked a pivotal moment in the struggle for farmers’ rights.

In the 2012 assembly elections, Dhirendra Singh contested as the INC candidate but narrowly missed securing the seat. His influence extended beyond  electoral politics, as he is also credited with shaping the Land Acquisition Act 2013 Ordinance.

Subsequently, due to his popularity, public image, and tireless efforts on behalf of farmers, Singh was declared the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for the Jewar constituency in the 2017 Uttar Pradesh assembly polls. His impact was transformative, turning the Jewar constituency into a renowned economic  hub for western Uttar Pradesh.

As an elected representative, Singh’s first priority was addressing unemployment in his region. He successfully convinced Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of the immense benefits the airport project would bring to his constituents, including substantial employment opportunities. During his inaugural assembly meeting, Singh advocated for the revival of the long-overdue Jewar airport project and played a pivotal role in persuading farmers to contribute their land for this critical infrastructure. Simultaneously, he ensured fair compensation for these farmers through government mediation. Singh’s commitment to progress and welfare remains a cornerstone of his legacy. after the greenlighting of the airport project brought employment opportunities to his region he shifted his focus to education and healthcare. Recognizing the severe lack of educational facilities, Singh championed the cause. His efforts resulted in the establishment of three degree colleges, two of which are exclusively for underprivileged girls. This move was crucial in addressing the low women’s literacy rate prevalent in the area.

The primary school education system also witnessed significant improvements under the government’s guidance. Necessary facilities were installed, enhancing the learning environment for young students. Furthermore, a secondary education government school received approval in 2024, promising better  educational prospects for the youth.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Singh identified the critical state of the government healthcare infrastructure. Many community health centers had remained non-operational for over a decade. With unwavering determination, he revitalized the Jewar and Bilaspur Community Health Centers (CHCs). Utilizing his MLA fund, Singh oversaw their renovation and ensured the availability of ambulance services for rural residents. Additionally, modern facilities like BiPAP machines were installed to combat the pandemic effectively.

Singh’s commitment extended beyond practical actions. He meticulously compiled an annual report highlighting all the development work undertaken in his  constituency from 2017 to 2022. Over 600 crore rupees were allocated for rural road development and other essential amenities. This tireless dedication resonated with the people, leading to his resounding victory in the 2022 elections.
